Highlighting transportation infrastructure projects of BMB Steel

07-30-2023

With a number of advantages, steel structures play an important role in constructing transportation infrastructure. Nowadays, they are used in several different transportation projects to serve transportation demand and promote local economic growth. BMB Steel takes pride in being contracted for many steel transportation infrastructure projects. This writing shall discuss some highlighting constructions of BMB Steel.

1. The application of steel structures in transportation infrastructure

The application of steel structures in transportation infrastructure is widespread and plays a crucial role in the construction of various transportation systems. Steel offers several advantages, such as strength, durability, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. Here are some examples of steel transportation infrastructure:

  • Bridges: Steel is commonly used in the construction of bridges due to its high strength-to-weight ratio. It allows for longer spans and lighter structures, reducing the need for excessive support columns and minimizing the impact on the environment.
  • Highways and Expressways: Steel is used in highway and expressway infrastructure in various ways. It is used for guardrails, sign structures, lighting poles, and overhead sign gantries. Steel structures for highway applications are designed to withstand impact loads, and weather conditions, and provide long-term durability.
  • Tunnels: Steel structures are used in the construction of tunnels to provide support and stability. Steel reinforcement is commonly used in tunnel linings to enhance their strength and prevent collapse. Steel arches or ribs are installed to provide structural support during excavation and to distribute loads evenly.
  • Railway Infrastructure: Steel plays a significant role in railway infrastructure, particularly in the construction of railway bridges, rail tracks, and station structures. Steel is used for the fabrication of railway bridges due to its ability to span long distances and withstand heavy loads. Steel rails provide a smooth and durable surface for trains to travel on, and steel structures are used to support overhead power lines and signal systems.
  • Airports: Steel structures are used extensively in airport construction, such as terminal buildings, hangars, control towers, and aircraft maintenance facilities often utilize steel due to its strength, flexibility in design, and cost-effectiveness. Steel frames allow for large open spaces without the need for excessive columns, providing flexibility in interior layouts.
  • Port Infrastructure: Steel structures are essential in port infrastructure, including the construction of docks, piers, and shipyards. Steel sheet piles are used to create retaining walls for harbor basins and to prevent soil erosion. Cranes and other heavy equipment used in ports are often made of steel due to their strength and durability.

2. Highlighting transportation infrastructure projects of BMB Steel

Overall, the application of steel structures in transportation infrastructure is diverse and contributes to the development of efficient, safe, and sustainable transportation systems. Below are some highlighting transportation infrastructure projects in charge by BMB Steel.

2.1 Accessories of Phu My Bridge

  • Quantity of steel: 700 tons
  • Location: Phu My Bridge, Dist 7, Hochiminh City, Vietnam

The Phu My Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The construction of the Phu My Bridge began in 2002 and was completed in 2009. It has become an important transportation infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City, facilitating smoother traffic flow in the surrounding areas. BMB Steel was responsible for providing the accessories for the bridge construction project. The total amount of steel used in this project was 700 tons.

2.2 Bridge of Dong Nai 4 Hydroelectric Power Plant 4

  • Quantity of steel: 400 tons
  • Location: Dak Nong and Lam Dong Province, Vietnam

The Dong Nai 4 Hydroelectric Power Plant is a significant hydropower project, established on December 26th, 2004 and completed on February 27th, 2013. This project provides various benefits to the region, meeting the electricity needs of the surrounding areas. BMB Steel took pride in being the contractor of the steel frame of the bridge. We constructed a firm steel structure with about 400 tons of steel, allowing a link between two river banks, facilitating inspecting and maintenance activities.

2.4 Tan Son Nhat Air Traffic Control Tower

  • Quantity of steel: 200 tons
  • Height: 75m
  • Location: Tan Son Nhat Airport, Tan Binh Dist, Hochiminh City, Vietnam

Tan Son Nhat International Airport, located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, is the largest and busiest airport in the country. The traffic control tower is a prominent feature with a height of 75m which maintains the safety and efficiency of flights in and out of Tan Son Nhat International Airport. It is constructed with a modern and functional design with approximately 200 tons of steel, meeting the requirements of air traffic control operations. BMB Steel was proud of taking responsibility for this project.
